Outdoor cricket season ends… Tournament details
The Bulgarian outdoor cricket season ended last weekend. The final tournament of the State T10 Championship was held. The teams of CC Akademik, CC VTU, IBCC and CC NSA participated. The four teams played according to the "each against each" system and the results achieved in the individual games determined the ranking and the State champion for 2021. There were very equal games wilth the following results:
On 13.11.2021: CC Akademik defeated CC NSA by 7 wickets. Their winning streak continued in the match against CC VTU and they won by 9 wickets. In the last game of the day, CC VTU won against CC NSA by 7 wickets.
On 14.11. The tournament continued with three more games. Surprisingly CC VTU won against IBCC by 5 wickets. This mobilized the players of IBCC and in the next match they won convincingly against CC NSA by 10 wickets. The last match of the tournament turned into a kind of a final. In it, IBCC and CC Academic showed a very good game, full of emotions and technical performances. IBCC won the toss, chose to bat and achieved 105/3 in 10 overs. In the second part of the game, CC Academic came out with the intention of winning the match, but the good play of their opponent in fielding prevented them from fulfilling their dream of a first cup in the state championships. IBCC with its experienced players Hristo Lakov, Prakash Mishra and Rohitt Diman did not allow a surprise and won the match by 38 runs. This is how the final ranking was formed:
- IBSS
- CC VTU
- CC Academic Sofia
- CC NSA
The best competitor of the tournament according to the results achieved in the three matches, the registration system for all cricket matches in Bulgaria, was determinate Hristo Lakov from IBCC.
The founder of BCF, Prof. Nikolay Kolev, gave a brief assessment of the past season: "This was a very difficult year for all of us. Despite all the problems related to the objective causes of the pandemic and the difficulties that people who have been out of cricket for a long time are constantly creating for us, we believe that we performed very well last year. It is still early for analyses and assessments, but our national team participated in three strong international T20 tournaments. Its game is getting better.
During the year, we hosted the European Cricket Series for the second time and the organization and the performance exceeded our expectations. This is not my opinion, but that of the founder and CEO of the league D.Weston and I think that in the new year we will host again one (why not two) tournaments from the European Cricket Series.
After this last outdoor tournament of the year, the indoor cricket season is coming. So far, two indoor cricket leagues have been formed: In Plovdiv with eight teams and in Sofia with six teams. We expect the formation of a league in central Bulgaria with 4 teams, which will start at the beginning of the 2022. The teams have serious work ahead of them during the winter break, because our champion IBCC will take part in the group phase of the European Champions Cricket League Group B, which will be held from February 14 to 18 in Spain. There are six teams in the group, the champions of: Ireland, Greece, Norway, Hungary, Bulgaria and Croatia. The first team in the group will participate in the finals, which will be from March 14 to 18 in Spain. "I hope for a better development of the situation in our country, so that our teams and Bulgarian sports in general can work normally during the winter season," concluded Prof. Kolev.
